Carol O’Connor stands with senior Reba Shandy on May 2 after awarding her the Bill O’Connor memorial scholarship, in honor of her late brother Bill O’Connor, a longtime Livingston elementary teacher.

Senior Reba Shandy was awarded the Mr. Bill O’Connor Memorial Scholarship for prospective teachers.  Carol O’Connor came to Park High May 2 to present the award to Shandy in honor of her brother Bill, who has a longtime elementary teacher in Livingston.  O’Connor, who was retired, died of COVID in March 2020, and his sister Carol said they established this scholarship because he loved teaching.

She said they chose Shandy for the award because she was highly recommended.  “I’m sure she’s smart, well-read, and will be a great teacher,” O’Connor said.  The award of $1,100 will help Shandy pursue a degree in English education at the University of Montana-Western in Dillon next year.
