Homecoming is one of the biggest activities in one’s high school experience, from the dress up days, to traditional activities, and lastly the sports events. Well this year for Park High some kids were cut short on these activities. Homecoming was scheduled Monday September 29th- Friday October 3rd. This caused a lot of disappointment in golf, and volleyball as the had meets scheduled and had to miss out on Friday activities.
Volleyball had their week planned out perfectly that they would play Hardin Friday night then stay in Miles City, and the next day take off to Glendive then trail home. Sadly missing the big homecoming football game on Friday night. The golf team took off Wednesday through Saturday to Sidney for state, missing half of the week and the excitement.
Scheduling Homecoming was difficult for the student council and the new athletic director, Brick Cegelski, who had to work around the already established sports and activities schedule made by former Ad Scott Rosberg. The major thing Cegelski was considering when picking a week for homecoming is when most of everyone is here and if we have free days of the week to do ironman and powder puff that students would be able to participate in. “But the big deciding factor was nothing happening on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,”Cegelski said about the chosen dates.
President of student council senior Noah Craig mentioned “Weather was also a really big thing. We didn’t want everyone to be freezing their butts off”. The thought of doing homecoming later in the month of October was brought up, but the weather in October isn’t always so pretty for outside activities.
Now with homecoming week long past, all we can do is wonder why we didn’t we do homecoming later, with senior nights, and maybe good weather? With all these questions all we can do is plan for next year and take what we’ve learned this year and apply it to future homecoming weeks to make them better. While this years homecoming week was early, there was never a fear of bad weather.
