Christmas break is a time every student looks forward to but once it finally arrives, the big question becomes “what should you do with all that free time?” Whether you’re traveling or staying in town, love the outdoors or prefer staying warm inside, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
For the outdoorsy people you can go skiing /snowboarder at Bridger Bowl. Opening day was December 12th, and to add to that you can go cross-country skiing at Crosscut Mountain sports center. Try out ice skating at the ice rank at the county fairgrounds inside one of the steer barns. Doors are open 9am to 9pm everyday. They also provide skates and there is no cost. You can also try the lagoon at Sacajawea Park. Lastly you can go sledding at the 9th street hill; that’s always a classic.
To stay away from the cold you could have a movie marathon with Christmas movies. Some classics are “Rudolph the red nose reindeer”, “Frosty the Snowman”, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “ELF”, “The Grinch”, and “The Polar Express”. You can never go wrong with baking, maybe a cookie bake off with friends or family. To go with that you could do a board-game night and decorate gingerbread houses. D.I.Y some ornaments, candles, blankets, just doing some crafts is always fun.
Everyone does something different for Christmas from traveling, to staying here. While interviewing students I also asked everyone their favorite and least favorite part of Christmas break. Freshman Weston Fabich and his family plan on going to New York over the break. Weston also added that his favorite part of Christmas break was being off of school. Junior Wyatt Willyard is planning on staying in town over break but he also added that his mom is coming up from Texas. Wyatt’s favorite part of break is seeing family. “ I get to see them at Thanksgiving, but not as much as Christmas,” he explained.
Sophomore Tayla Robert’s plans on spending her Christmas riding snowmobiles with family and friends. She is going to stay in Montana. Like Weston Tayla also mentioned her favorite part of break was not coming to school.
Overall, Christmas break means something a little different for everyone, but it’s always a chance to slow down, have fun, and spend time with the people who matter most. Whether you’re traveling across the country, hitting the slopes, baking cookies, or just relaxing at home, the break gives you time to recharge and make memories you’ll look back on. However you choose to spend it, enjoy the time off, appreciate the season, and come back refreshed and ready for the new year.
