For the second year in a row, a female duck chose the corner of the PHS courtyard to lay her eggs and hatch her ducklings. When she was proctoring the ACT test in early April,
librarian Kate Lende observed the female being chased around the courtyard by several male ducks. By May, she had settled into a pile of dead leaves near the cafeteria to build her nest.
Two ducklings hatched over Memorial Day weekend, and Principal Lori Dust coordinated the ducks’ release to the Sacajawea Park Lagoon on May 30. Last year, the same mama duck led 11 ducklings through the library and down the hall to the outdoors.
