With the start of the 2024 Track and Field season coming up very quickly, we wondered how this year’s athletes felt about the upcoming season. Athletes Cole Bartz, Veronica Glenn, Asa Duncan, and Tyler Grenier are all very optimistic about the 2024 season. All four athletes competed at the state meet last season and hope to make it back and place even higher.
Cole Bartz, Park High’s number one shot put thrower, took fourth at last year’s Eastern A divisional tournament. Bartz said, “I just hope to gain more distance this year. I want to compete to win at divisional and hope to place this year at state.” Bartz competes all winter at the indoor track facility in Bozeman.
Veronica Glenn, Park High Track’s leading female athlete, is very excited for this upcoming season. Glenn competes in long jump, triple jump, high jump, 400 meter, 100 meter, 200 meter, 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay. Glenn says “I’m always looking for those PR’s and I’m always hoping to improve on everything that I do.”
Senior Pole Vaulter Asa Duncan is very devoted and focused on his goals and the team’s goals this year. Duncan states, “I’m gonna branch out and compete in more events this year. I’m gonna compete in long jump, the 4×100 relay as well as pole vault. I don’t have any expectations this year except to do the best I can. My hope is to end up on the top-three podium in pole vault at the end of the year.” Asa is the leading pole vaulter for Park High and is hoping to carry on the success that the team has had in this event over the last several years.
Tyler Grenier, the fastest of all the Running Rangers, is very optimistic about the upcoming season for not only himself, but the team as well. Grenier claims, “I think that the team will compete very well. As for myself, I’m just always looking to run faster and really be able to score points for our team.” Grenier went to state last year in the 4×400 relay and hopes to this year qualify in all of his events.
Park High has a ton of talent on this year’s team and hopes to place not only at the divisional meet but the state meet as well. Coaches Joey Lane, Shad Durgan, Matt Schad, and Casey Bartz will undoubtedly train these athletes to win.
