Have your friends ever persuaded you to do something ? Well in this case, Anna Lende persuaded her friend, freshman Emma Malloy, to join the Park High Golf team. Lende is a sophomore on the Girls Varsity Golf team. Lende has been playing golf since she was about 5 but she didn’t take it seriously until 4th grade. Lende says that it’s very fun having a friend being on the golf team. “Emma only started playing golf this June so when we started it was a little rough, but I think she has improved a lot,” said Lende. Malloy said she looks up to Lende on the golf team for self improvements by watching Lende play.
Malloy’s favorite part about golf is traveling and meeting new people. Traveling to other towns and meeting new people is a perk about being on the golf team. Malloy said that the golf team was very welcoming to her and they are very nice. The people on the team were also her favorite part about golf.
Malloy gets ready for a tournament by hitting on the driving range and putting. She also said that before she gets ready for a game she likes to sit and clear her mind. Malloy told me that golf isn’t only about technique, it is also a mind game. You have to have a good mind set so you won’t psych yourself out. I asked Malloy what was the hardest part about golf and she said “ Trying not to get in your head while in a tournament.”
Malloy’s future on the golf team is stable. She wants to play from freshman year to senior year. Malloy is the only freshman girl on the varsity team meaning she can play for varsity and JV. Her goal for this season was to have 120 strokes in each tournament. Her advice to other people who play golf or want to play is to have fun and don’t overthink things. Golf can be an individual sport and for some that can be a good thing but Malloy prefers to play with a team. So Malloy, is playing golf with Lende worth it?
