Over the last four years, one senior has displayed exceptional performance in the field of math. This student is Jessica Worthen. Worthen has taken math every year of high school including two AP courses, Calculus AB and Statistics. Her favorite of these was AP Statistics. “AP Stats was really hard, but it ended up being really rewarding,” Worthen says.
After high school, Worthen will continue her pursuit of mathematics as she majors in financial engineering. The classes she has taken at Park High not only fostered her interest in math but set her up to be successful in college. Worthen was chosen as the Math Exemplar because of her incredible feats in the subject as well as her dedication and commitment. “I have taken a lot of math classes and have put in extra hours to understand the content,” states Worthen.
Worthen has had good relationships with all her math teachers. However, she would like to give a special shout out to Mr. Mussetter, “I have taken three classes with Mr. Mussetter, and he has always been great. He has been really hopeful in me and my abilities, which helps.”
Aside from her actual math classes, Worthen has spent extra time with a few other students in her pre-calculus teacher’s classroom. During her junior year, she did not have a seventh period class so, along with other math driven students, she put in extra time understanding subject material. This is part of what sets Worthen aside from other students; her dedication and motivation to learn and understand difficult concepts.
