Senior night for the boys varsity team saw the Rangers facing the Lockwood Lions on Feb. 15, with all seniors playing for the first two quarters of the game. First quarter of the game started off well with Park High senior Jon Durgan scoring four points in just the first couple of minutes. The Lockwood Lions made some good scores as well scoring eight points in the first four minutes of the game. Both teams fought hard and played aggressively, ending the first quarter at 18-12, Lockwood.
Starting the second quarter, Park High senior Tristan Watts plays very aggressively, racking up five fouls in the first half of the game. These teams played hard with senior Durgan scoring four more points and adding another foul to the board. Both teams being pretty much tied with the amount of fouls being passed back and forth would be a sign of how aggressive and hard working both these teams were to win. At the half, Lockwood’s lead had grown to 30 points at 46-16.
After the teams had time to talk in the locker rooms they came out with new strategies. Park allowed a trio of juniors to come out on the court (0-Coen Braham, 4-Weston Vincent, and 2-Isaac Ramirez). Junior Coen Braham gives the Lockwood Lions a run for their money when he scored three points within the first three minutes he was in the game. Lockwood seniors were put back into the game and scored another nine points to the scoreboard, ending the third quarter with a score of Park at 19 and Lockwood at 55.
As the last quarter started, senior Cameron Sestrich came back into the game playing aggressive and scoring five points during his final night as a Park High player. Junior Braham added three more points to the board. Lockwood seniors pulled through adding 10 more points to their overall score, ending the game with a score of 27-66. Lockwood left with a win against Park High making the Lions 9-1 heading into the divisional tournament.
Senior student Tristan Watts stated, “It felt very weird to know this is the last time I would play”. Teammate and fellow senior Durgan added, “It felt very bitter sweet to
be playing for the last time, but I do think I ended on a good note.”
