With all the new snow the area has received in February, most people see a lot of white, but seniors Isaac Winfrey and Nick Smith see a whole lot of green. Everytime it snows, these young entrepreneurs turn piles of snow into cash with their snow removal business, SW Services.
They mow lawns in the summer and shovel snow in the winter. They started their business together some time last year because they were tired of getting underpaid from other jobs and realised they could be making more money on their own. They manage their business all while still being in school. “It’s definitely time consuming but we work through it and every other chance we get we’re working or talking about the business,” said Smith.
Both seniors have three periods in their schedule for work release to allow them time to run their business, but when there is a big snowstorm, sometimes they have to miss school to keep up. Smith says what makes their business unique from other similar companies is that “We beat other people’s prices and we do a better job and we actually care about our clients.”
On a good day they try and do 14 jobs a day but on the lower end they do about six jobs a day. They snowblow the clients’ sidewalks and shovel and after that they use a blower to get all the leftover snow off the side and make it look perfect. Their plans for the future of their business is to expand and get bigger, to be able to hire new employees and have their business run on its own while they aren’t there.
