Park High School is home to two fantastic swimmers. Logan Chun and Joji Berg, both tenth graders at Park High, are dedicated swimmers for the Bozeman Barracuda Swim Club. Chun has swum competitively since age eight, while Berg has been with the Barracudas for seven years. Recently, the team traveled to Hawaii for a unique training experience, swimming both at the University of Hawaii and in the ocean.
Chun, a tenth grader at Park High, has been swimming her whole life. Growing up in California, Chun lived with a pool in her yard and an ocean close by. Driven by her grandfather who was a diver and her mother who was also a competitive swimmer, Chun has swum competitively since she was only eight years old.
Being part of the Bozeman swim team is no easy task. For nearly eleven months of the year, Chun has to travel to the Bozeman Swim Center three times a week. Chun tries to swim as much as she can because as her old coach said best, “Every day you miss practicing is worth two days of swimming.” Her favorite swim is the 50 meters freestyle, which is about the length of a regulation pool, where you can swim however you wish. Recently, the Barracudas traveled to Hawaii, where they got to practice in a much different environment. They swam at the University of Hawaii for a week as well as in the ocean.
Joji Berg is another student from Park High who competes for the Bozeman Barracuda Swim Club. Berg, also a tenth grader, has been swimming for the Barracudas for seven years. Very dedicated to what he does, Berg gets up every weekday and practices from 5-7a.m. in Bozeman. Not only that, he also practices every weekday from 7-9 p.m., also in Bozeman. Berg puts in the work because he hopes to swim for college, perhaps the Air Force Academy, or at least a division one school. While lots of swimmers, like Chun, compete in short distance races, Berg likes different styles. His favorite swim is the 500 meters freestyle. As for Hawaii, Berg thought, “it was a really great trip. It was fun to practice in a different state.”
Both Chun and Berg are good examples of Park High athletes who put in lots of work to the sports they love. Even in a place where indoor pools are rare and there’s lots of snow on the ground, these two athletes demonstrate their dedication.
