Last week, students at Park High school packed into the gym for an assembly they won’t forget anytime soon. Isaac Fisher, a 6’10” dunk artist from Montana, came to share his story and throw down some insane dunks with his Flight Squad.
Fisher’s journey wasn’t easy. He talked about growing up in what he called the “stereotypical rez life” before being taken in by his aunt and uncle at age two. They taught him about respect and introduced him to basketball, which eventually changed his life. One of the biggest turning points for him was in middle school when Kenny Dobbs, a Native American dunk artist, came to speak. “His story really resonated with me. We grew up the same way,” Fisher said to the audience.
But Fisher’s message wasn’t just about basketball, it was about perseverance, hard work, and keeping up with grades. He shared how he went from being benched his freshman year because of bad grades to winning back-to-back state basketball championships in Arlee. Basically, he proved that effort in school and sports can pay off in huge ways.
After his speech, the real fun started. Fisher and his Flight Squad got students involved in a basketball competition, where Kyler Cravins took the win over Phoebe Alverson. Then, they set up a 3v3 game with students and the Flight
Squad members, keeping the energy immensely high.
After that, the dunk show started. The gym went crazy watching these guys fly through the air, throwing down ridiculous dunks. To finish it out, Principal Cole Maxwell was dunked on.
