During the first week of the new semester, German teacher Herr Von Sehlen surprised his German class with a homemade giant pretzel. Called a “Neujahrbrezel,” the salt-covered treat is a New Years tradition in Germany, which is Von Sehlen’s native country.
Senior Augie Stern guessed one of the pretzel’s ingredients correctly, causing the German student to dance around the classroom in excitement. All students were able to sample the homemade pretzel. Von Sehlen said he has previously worked as a baker and still enjoys baking in his spare time.
