On Tuesday, May 14, at 7:00 p.m., all college-bound seniors and many eligible juniors piled into the gym wearing their best formal clothes to celebrate their achievements with their parents.
The Valedictorians and Salutatorians were called up to the stage to celebrate their outstanding academic successes within the school. They are Cole Bartz, Tyler Grenier, Erika Haines, Remy Sexton, Scarlett Welch, Josephina Vermillion, Victoria Gasparakis, Veronica Glenn, Lyle McCormick, and Charles Vermillion.
Additionally, PHS Work Based Learning Certifications were handed out to 10 seniors and nine juniors who spent a part of their day volunteering and learning at local businesses in a field they are interested in pursuing in the future.
Multiple awards were given out through the nights centering around the military, mathematics, community service, and mentorship. Seniors Phoenix Pfohl and Isabel Fool Bear were awarded the United States Army National Guard and United States Army Award for their plans to enlist in the military when they graduate. The Trig-Star Award was given to Junior Carson Bekedam, and the Park High Outstanding Community Service Award was awarded to Senior Evelyn Howell. Finally, Senior Magnus Sloth-Huss was awarded the first Park High Outstanding Student Mentor in Unified PE for his work in the SPED Program.
Finally, students who received scholarships for higher education were recognized. In total, PHS juniors and seniors received 1,515,605 dollars through various universities and local scholarships. Guidance counselor Abby Kinsey says that “It’s a lot more money than last year. Smaller class last yea,r though, but still. We’ve been kind of hanging in there consistently since 2016. Covid year and last year were close to a million. We still have scholarships coming in because of the FAFSA delays.”
Congratulations to all of the seniors and juniors!
