The art department every year shows off the seniors’ art work in a gallery at the Livingston Center for Art and Culture to the public on Main Street. “It was a good reception, there was a trickle of people the whole night,” said art teacher Sarah Mussetter. To put the students’ work into a gallery is a boost of confidence, but it also requires a risk of opening your project up for the whole community to see.
Some students are very proud to have their artwork displayed, Senior Leo Mitchell had a large variety of her artwork displayed, from ceramic pieces to paintings, Leo had 13 pieces of art work displayed at the art show, all with an obvious deeper meaning. “Most of the work is just from different songs that have made an impact on me,” said Mitchell. A pottery piece of a knife going through a Bible stuck out to many. Explaining the piece, Mitchell said, “I grew up religious and what I have learned is some people use religion as a reason to not agree with something, when the overarching idea of the Bible is loving everyone. So I believe in the Bible but the way that some people use the Bible upsets me,” she said. Mitchell had lots of passion put into her work, so she was very proud that there was a place where more people could see, and hopefully relate to, her work.
