The softball team started the season strong with a 25-10 win against East Helena, who are new to the Rangers’ conference this year.
The Rangers scored six runs in the first inning, including two triples each from seniors Addyson Norquist and Emily Jesson.
“I think defense was strong,” said outfielder Riley Tuccillo, who couldn’t play in the game due to a sprained ankle.
Ranger fans were treated to three home runs, including two by pitcher Kenna Benzel and one by center fielder Maddie Johnson of Big Timber.
“We communicated well and adjusted from a dirt surface to turf pretty well,” said third baseman Norquist.
The game saw multiple players taking on new roles, including sophomore Annie Keyes at first base.
“We excelled in unfamiliar places,” said Tuccillo.
Senior Erika Haines fielded a grounder in left field and threw the ball home to get the opponent out in one exciting moment. “As soon as she let go, I knew that we got her. It was on the money,” said catcher Tess Goosey.
The Lady Rangers face Lockwood at home in a rescheduled conference game Tuesday, April 2 starting at 4 p.m.
