The National Honors Society (NHS) is more than an honor roll. Each member must show good grades and strength in each of the remaining three criteria : leadership, service, and character. Members of the NHS have been demonstrating a variety of subjects and showing service and leadership.
Member Kylie McDonald said, “NHS members must complete 25 hours of community service for each year of membership.” National Honor Society students seek to get more involved in the community and develop leadership skills.
NHS recent service projects include the very successful winter clothing drive that McDonald coordinated. Donations of new or gently used winter items were collected at Park High School or CHP and the public was invited on Dec. 22 to pick the clothes they wanted. Advisor Laurie Knuchel said a lot of good quality items were donated and the families who showed up were able to take home some “nice things.” She said the turnout on Dec. 22 was lower than hoped for so NHS plans to host another “shopping session” for local families later in 2024.
Another service project that members of Park High’s National Honor Society run is our Peer Tutoring Program. They offer tutoring to peers or those in younger grades. NHS meets every Monday for tutoring in all subjects. Students interested in personal tutoring, there are posters with QR codes posted around the school.Schedule one-on-one help on Thursdays.
