Melanie Nelson is rather ambivalent about her high school experience, rating it a 6 out of 10. “It was tough, but at the same time you still grow from it throughout your four years, you know? Maturity-wise, I’ve been able to help not only myself but others through hard things, like the suicide rate and mental health in general,” says Melanie. “I feel like I’m pretty prepared. I’ve been working every year since freshman year,” she says when asked about how ready she feels to enter adult life. To incoming freshmen, Melanie leaves this advice: “Even when things get difficult, try your best to keep up on your schoolwork. I know that I’ve failed a lot of classes freshman through junior year, just cause of struggling in general. Just do your best, stay up on your grades, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
